Put Work on Hold and Book a Return Visit
Use On hold when a trip ends but the job needs another visit, such as waiting for a part. Book the return on the same job so the earlier trip's crew and actual times stay in its history. This guide covers the web Dispatch workflow.
Pause or End the Trip?
- Pause: the tech is still on site and temporarily stops the work timer. Resume to continue that visit.
- On hold: the current trip is over and the work needs a later return.
- Completed: the work is finished and ready for billing.
Your shop may use its own labels for these behaviors. See Set Up Job Statuses and Completion Proof.
Book the Return
- Use the job's appropriate hold status when the tech ends the unfinished trip.
- In Dispatch, open Job queue > On hold.
- Select the job and choose Book return visit.
- Set the return date, crew, arrival promise, and work estimate. Review drive time and save.
Inspect the visit you mean to review. Earlier visits keep their recorded information and cannot be dragged to rewrite their history. If a booking changed while you were editing, reload it and review the current trip before retrying.
Keep One Work Record
A return visit is part of the same job. Review the job's charges and linked conversation before billing, and send the customer a new appointment confirmation when needed.
