Create a New Job

The Fastest Way to Create a Job

KeyBolt is designed so you can create a job in under 30 seconds, even while driving between calls. The + button (the floating action button at the bottom of your screen on mobile, or in the top bar on desktop) opens the job creation flow.

Step 1: Pick the Customer

The sheet is titled New Job, Step 1 of 3. Start typing a customer name or phone number in the search field. KeyBolt searches your entire customer list instantly. Tap a result to select them.

If this is a new customer, tap Add new customer and enter their name, phone, and (optionally) address. The customer record is saved immediately so it's ready for future jobs.

If you don't know who they are yet, tap Skip, no customer. The job gets created without one and you can attach the customer later from the job. This is normal for a lead that came in with no name on it.

Step 2: Select the Service

Choose from your job templates. Each template shows the service name, price, and estimated duration. Tap one to select it. The template auto-fills:

  • Job type (lockout, rekey, install, etc.)
  • Default price
  • Estimated duration
  • Invoice line items (used later when you send the bill)

You can override any of these values on the next screen if this job is different from the standard template.

Step 3: Schedule

The default schedule is "Now", meaning the job is created and ready to dispatch immediately. This is the right choice for most lockout calls and same-day work.

To schedule for later, tap the date/time picker and choose a future date and time. The job will appear on your schedule for that day.

Tap "Create" and the job is live. It shows up in your Today view (if scheduled for today), in the full Jobs list, and is ready to be dispatched to a tech.

Tip: If you're the only person in the shop, KeyBolt doesn't ask who is doing the job and leaves it unassigned. Once you have techs on your team, an Assign Tech list appears on Step 3, and you can also set or change the tech from the job itself.

After Creation

The new job starts in Scheduled status. From here, you use the tap-to-advance flow to move it through your workflow: Start Route, Arrived, Complete Job, Send Invoice. See the "Job Status Workflow" article for the full breakdown.
