Attach a Colab to a Job You Already Made
When the Job Already Exists
Sometimes the job is already in KeyBolt and the conversation is sitting in a separate Colab. Attach joins the two without changing either one. The Colab keeps its number, the job keeps its number, and the Colab then shows both, for example Colab #1590 with a Linked Job #1133 chip.
This works on both plans. Owners, managers, and dispatchers can attach.
From the Colab
- Open the Colab.
- Tap Attach to Job in the row of buttons at the top.
- Search by job number, customer, address, or work order number, then pick the job.
- Tap Attach Colab and confirm.
The same screen has a Merge with another Colab tab. That one joins two conversations, which is a different job from joining a conversation to a job. See Convert and Merge Colabs.
From the Job
Open the job's own page and tap Attach a Colab, then pick the conversation. Same result, from the other side. The button only shows when the job has no Colab on it yet.
The Job Does Not Have to Be Open
You can attach a conversation to work that is already Completed or Invoiced. That is the point: it is after-the-fact bookkeeping, and attaching changes nothing on the job. A Cancelled job cannot be attached to.
What Attaching Does
- The Colab's pill becomes Job Created and a Linked Job chip appears, so you can jump between the two.
- Photos and documents on the Colab are copied onto the job for you, in the background.
- If the Colab had no customer, it picks up the job's customer.
- Nothing on the job is rewritten. No field, no number, no schedule.
When It Is Refused
- The Colab is closed or cancelled. Those cannot be attached.
- The Colab already has a different job. Unlink it first.
- The job already belongs to another Colab. Merge the two Colabs instead.
- The Colab and the job are on two different customers. Fix the customer on one of them first.
Undoing It
Open the Colab and tap Unlink next to the Linked Job chip. Both records keep the numbers they already had, and the Colab goes back to where it was before.
