Scan a Barcode

Find an Item by Its Code

Tap Scan next to the search box on the Inventory page. Point a scanner at the barcode, or type the code, and KeyBolt opens that item.

Most USB and Bluetooth scanners just work: they type the code into the box and press Enter on their own. No pairing setup inside KeyBolt, no driver.

Scanning only finds an item. It never changes your stock on its own. This is on both plans, Basic and KeyBolt Pro.

Using a Camera Instead

No scanner? On the scan page, tap Scan with camera and hold the barcode or QR code up to your phone or laptop camera.

  • Your browser has to let KeyBolt use the camera. It will ask the first time.
  • Not every browser can read barcodes. If yours cannot, KeyBolt says so and you type the code instead.

Giving an Item a Code

Open the item and fill in Barcode or scan code on the form. That is the code the Scan button matches. One item, one code.

If the code is not one KeyBolt recognizes, it offers to Add a new item with this code, which is a fast way to book in something you have never carried before while it is still in your hand.

Printing Your Own Labels

Plenty of locksmith stock arrives with no barcode at all. Print your own:

  1. On the Inventory list, tick the items you want.
  2. Tap Print labels in the bar at the bottom.

You can also print one from an item's own page with the Label button.

Tip: Label the drawer, not just the item. A code stuck to the front of the bin means a tech can scan it without pulling everything out, and that is the difference between a count that happens and a count that does not.
