When the App Asks You to Update

The "Update KeyBolt" Screen

Now and then the KeyBolt app shows a screen that says Update KeyBolt and tells you the version you have is no longer supported. The app will not open until you update.

Tap the Update KeyBolt button. It takes you straight to the store your phone uses, the App Store on an iPhone or iPad and Google Play on Android.

If the store does not open on its own, open it yourself and search for KeyBolt Mobile.

You need a connection to update. With no signal the app tells you so. Get a bar of signal, then update.

This Is Rare

Most improvements arrive quietly. The app picks them up in the background and you never see a thing. The full-stop screen is only for a version too old to keep running safely.

Nothing Is Lost

Updating does not lose your work. Anything you saved while you were offline is still on the phone afterward and syncs when you reconnect. See Using the App With No Signal.

How to Stop Seeing It

Turn on automatic app updates in your phone's own settings. On an iPhone or iPad that is Settings, then App Store. On Android it is in the Google Play app, under Settings, then Network preferences, then Auto-update apps. Your phone then picks up new versions overnight and this screen almost never appears.

There is a gentler version of this screen. It says KeyBolt needs an update and gives you a date. That one has a Use KeyBolt for now button, so you can finish the job you are on and update when you get a minute.
