Set Up Your KeyBolt Phone Line

KeyBolt Pro feature. Your own business phone line is part of the $189/mo Pro plan. Compare plans.

A Five-Step Checklist

Tap Phone & SMS in the left sidebar, then the Setup tab. On a phone, tap More, then Phone & SMS. Only the shop owner can open this page.

Setup is a numbered checklist that shows how many steps you have finished. Work down it in order. Steps 2 through 5 stay locked until step 1 is done.

  1. Connect Telnyx. Telnyx is the carrier behind your line. They bill you directly for calls and texts at their published rates, with no markup from KeyBolt.
  2. Get a phone number. Buy a new one, bring the number you already advertise, or attach a number you already own on Telnyx.
  3. Register for business texting. Required before you can text customers. See Register Your Shop for Business Texting.
  4. Set tech availability. Inbound calls only ring techs who are scheduled to be working right now.
  5. Customize auto-replies. Optional. The defaults are already on, so you can leave this and come back to it.

Step 2 in Detail: Getting Your Number

You get three cards to choose from:

  • Buy a new number. Search by area code and pick one that is free right now. It is live in seconds.
  • Port my existing number. Move the number your customers already know. Takes 7 to 14 days, and the pace is set by your old carrier, not by KeyBolt.
  • Use a number I already own on Telnyx. If you bought one in the Telnyx portal already, attach it in one click.

Bringing Your Existing Number Across

Two documents are required, and the request will not submit without both:

  • A recent bill from your current carrier.
  • A signed letter of authorization. KeyBolt gives you the form to download, sign, and upload back.

Once you submit, your old carrier takes over. When they agree to a switch date, KeyBolt shows it on the card so you know exactly when calls start arriving in KeyBolt. You can cancel a port request up until it goes through.

Important: If you are keeping other numbers with your old carrier, say so when KeyBolt asks and give the number that account should bill to afterward. Saying you are moving everything when numbers are staying behind can get those numbers disconnected.

What Happens After Setup

Calls to your new line ring every tech who is scheduled to be working. What callers hear, how long the phones ring, and what happens when nobody picks up are all set on the Call flow tab. See Choose What Happens When Your Shop Rings.

Watching the Cost

The Bill & usage tab shows your live Telnyx balance. For your exact voice, text, and AI spend, open the Telnyx portal from the link on that tab. That is where the authoritative total lives.
