Group Customers Under a Parent
Use a parent customer when branches, properties, or departments need their own customer records under one account. For several addresses on one customer, use Service locations instead.
Create or Choose the Parent
- Save the main company as a customer.
- Open its customer page and choose New sub-customer, or open another customer's edit form.
- In Part of, search for and select the parent.
- Check the billing choice and save.
The parent's page lists its sub-customers, and a sub-customer links back to its parent. The work stays on the customer it belongs to; grouping does not combine their job records. The relationship is one level deep: a customer with sub-customers cannot itself go under another parent.
Decide Who Pays
Picking a new parent starts with The parent pays the bills selected. Check that choice rather than assuming every branch pays centrally. If the child pays for itself, turn it off and choose its own billing person. Existing bills are not rewritten by changing a customer's default.
For a new sub-customer, missing default payment terms and tax exemption details can be copied from the parent when it is selected. They are a starting copy, not a live connection: later edits to the parent do not update those child defaults automatically.
Change the Relationship
Edit Part of to choose another parent or remove it. Removing the parent also turns off parent billing. Review the payer and send recipients on the next bill. See Choose Who Gets a Customer's Bills.
