Automatic Overtime

Let KeyBolt Do the Overtime Math

Add up a week of punches, work out what crosses 40 hours, and do it for every tech, every week, without a mistake. That's what this does. Turn it on once and the Team hours view splits regular from overtime for you.

It's on both plans. Only the shop owner can change these rules, and it's off until you turn it on.

This is an estimate, not payroll advice. KeyBolt says so on the card itself. Overtime law varies by state and by how someone is classified, and KeyBolt doesn't know your employment agreements. Always check the numbers before you pay them.

Turning It On

  1. Go to Time Clock. The Overtime rules card is on the same page, under your own clock. (It's the owner's page too, so if you don't see the card, you aren't the owner.)
  2. Switch on Calculate overtime automatically.
  3. Set Overtime after (hours per week). Starts at 40, the federal standard.
  4. Set Work week starts on. Starts at Monday. Pick whatever your payroll week actually uses.
  5. Tap Save overtime rules.

Daily Overtime and Double Time

Some states pay overtime after a certain number of hours in a day, no matter what the week adds up to. Minnesota does not. California does.

If yours does, switch on Also use daily overtime rules and set:

  • Overtime after (hours per day), commonly 8.
  • Double-time after (hours per day), commonly 12.

Both are off unless you fill them in. When an hour qualifies for both double time and overtime, it's counted as double time.

How It's Worked Out

Per person, per week. An entry counts toward the day and week it was clocked in on, so a shift that runs past midnight belongs to the day it started. Entries you're still clocked into aren't counted until you clock out.

Anything you've tagged by hand as Overtime, Double time, or Holiday is left exactly as you set it and doesn't feed the automatic math.

Where the Numbers Show Up

In Team hours, each person's card breaks down by pay class, and the weekly Download CSV has Regular, Overtime, Double time, and Holiday columns ready for payroll.

Tip: Set the work week to match your payroll provider's week before your first run. If they start Sunday and KeyBolt starts Monday, every overtime number will be subtly wrong and it's miserable to unpick later.
