Pay Two Techs on One Job

Two Techs, One Job, One Pot of Money

When you dispatch more than one tech to a job, the split percentage no longer produces "the tech's share". It produces a pool, and KeyBolt then divides that pool between the techs on the job.

Everything else in Tech Commissions and Payouts still applies: pre-tax amount after any discount, minus company parts, times the percentage. That result is the pool. Only owners and managers can set or change a split. This is on both plans, Basic and KeyBolt Pro.

Sending a Tech Is Adding Them to the Split

There is no separate step. Dispatching a tech to a job puts them on that job's pay split, because the job roster and the pay roster are the same list. Take somebody off the job and they come off the split too.

Saved Splits

Most shops split the same way every time. Save those once on the Team page:

  1. Go to Team in the sidebar.
  2. Find the split scenarios card and add one.
  3. Give it a name people will recognize, like "Even 50/50" or "Lead 70 / Helper 30", and type the shares.

Applying One to a Job

  1. Open the job, then the Finance tab.
  2. Scroll to Costs, then the Payout Preview.
  3. When the job has two or more techs, a Split between techs block appears with a row per tech.
  4. Use the Apply picker to choose Even split or one of your saved ones.

Two things worth knowing:

  • Applying a scenario locks those shares onto that job. Editing the saved scenario later never re-splits a job you already did.
  • If a scenario does not have the same number of shares as there are techs on the job, KeyBolt splits it evenly instead rather than guessing. The picker tells you, for example "(needs 3 techs)".

Odd cents go to the lead tech, so the shares always add back up to the pool exactly.

Parts are not shared out. A part a tech bought themselves is paid back to that tech in full, on top of their share. On a two-tech job the money follows whoever is named on the part, so two techs who each bought their own each get paid back for their own.
