Type In a Customer's Card

For a Stripe shop, choose Get paid > Type in card in a browser to charge the remaining balance on a bill. This guide covers the web app. The option is not available for Square shops, paid or void bills, or bills with no balance.

Enter and Charge

  1. Open the job or bill and choose Get paid > Type in card.
  2. Check the amount and customer.
  3. Enter the card number, expiry date, security code, and requested billing details in Stripe's secure field.
  4. Choose Charge and wait for the result.
  5. Check the bill's payment history. A successful charge appears as Paid by typed-in card (Stripe).

Card details go directly to Stripe, not into KeyBolt's notes or customer record. Do not put a card number in a Colab, photo, or job description.

If the Bank Requires Approval

Some banks require the cardholder to approve the payment. Use a reader, or send the customer a payment link only after checking that it asks for the correct remaining amount. After a manual partial payment, the old link can still charge the original total, even if you resend it. Collect the rest with a reader, Tap to Pay on iPhone, cash, or check instead. See Record Partial Payments. If a payment is declined, read the error and check with the customer before trying again.

If the Bill Still Looks Unpaid

The provider's payment confirmation updates the bill. Allow it time to arrive, then refresh and check Payment History. If the result is uncertain, check the original payment before trying another charge.

Fees and Receipts

Processing fees depend on your Stripe account and payment method. Check your Stripe agreement and current Stripe pricing. After the bill reads Paid, send a receipt to the requested email or, on Pro, phone number.
