Turn On Your Online Store

Three Public Pages, Three Switches

KeyBolt can give your shop three public pages. They're independent: turn on any combination, or none. All three start off.

They're on both plans. Only the shop owner can flip them.

  1. Go to Settings and open the Online store tab.
  2. Switch on what you want.
  3. Each switch reveals its link, with a Copy button. Copy it from there rather than typing it out.

What Each One Does

  • Online store. Sells the inventory you've listed for sale. Customers browse, add to a cart, and pay by card.
  • Request a service form. A public form for customers to send you a job request. Submissions land in your Inbox as a lead.
  • Public shop page. A simple page with your shop name, hours, and contact info.
The shop page is worth turning on even if you have a website. Carriers require a public web page before they'll approve business texting. If your shop doesn't have a site, this page satisfies that requirement.

Before You Can Sell: Connect Stripe

The store takes card payments into your Stripe account. Without Stripe connected, shoppers see a message saying the shop can't take orders yet. Do Settings > Payments first.

Putting an Item in the Store

Nothing is listed by default. Your inventory stays private until you say otherwise.

  1. Go to Inventory and open an item.
  2. Tap Edit, then open the Online store and fulfillment section.
  3. Switch on List for sale.
  4. Make sure the item has a price.

Both parts matter. An item listed with no price shows as Call for price and can't be bought. The Inventory list has All, Internal stock, and For sale filters so you can see what's public at a glance.

Pickup or Shipping

Each item has a Fulfillment setting:

  • Pickup only
  • Ships to customer
  • Pickup or ship

For anything shippable, Shipping cost ($, optional) is charged once per product, not per unit. Leave it blank for free shipping.

Don't mix pickup-only and ship-only items. A cart has to have one delivery method that works for everything in it. If a shopper puts a pickup-only item and a ship-only item in the same cart, checkout stops and tells them to order separately. If you sell both kinds, "Pickup or ship" on your common items avoids the whole problem.

Stock

When a shopper starts checkout, that stock is held for about half an hour so two people can't buy your last deadbolt. If they abandon the cart, the hold is released automatically. Selling out mid-checkout tells them how many are left rather than taking money for something you don't have.

When an Order Comes In

You get an email with the buyer's details and what they bought, the shop gets an Orders badge in the sidebar, and the buyer gets their own confirmation. See Handle Store Orders.

Things to Know

  • Card only. No bank transfers or wallets at store checkout.
  • No sales tax on store orders. Store checkout doesn't add tax. Price accordingly, and talk to your accountant about what you owe on online sales.
  • US shipping only.
  • The money is yours directly. It lands in your Stripe account. KeyBolt takes no cut of a store order.
